If you happen to be strolling through the Granville Island market in Vancouver you will come upon the famous Jackson’s Poultry store. I highly recommend  you park here for a minute to buy some of the geat poultry products they sell.

The 4′ X 3′  sign is backed with woodgrain upholstery upon which I attached the foam egg that supports the sintra lettering.

  If you want to combine an Australian red back spider, Africa, gold and a wine cellar then you just might get this carving on your barrel.

 As you might guess, that was the request from one of my clients. The spider was not carved and applied but instead was carved right into the barrel top.

What a thrill it was to get a call from members of the “Cooper” clan. It was an honor to carve their crest onto a barrel. This was one of the few full-sized barrel requests since most clients prefer to hang a barrel “end” on a wall or wine cellar door. However, this piece suited the project best by being fullsized and adorning the entrance way  of their home.

This is a very popular design. The grape rosette takes quite a bit of work due to the detail in the design; however the result is very appealing. I’ve made a few of these and each had something unique carved into it so the client received a very personal art piece.

Located in Kane County on the west edge of bustling Elgin just outside of Chicago and nestling amid rolling hills and a magnificent golf course is Bowes Creek Country Club. Within this idyllic setting you will find Porter’s Pub.

The winemaker’s cottage barrel head carving emphasizes the view seen from the window in the cottage of the same name in Lakebreeze Vineyards. The ribbon around the outside is symbolic of the ribbons won by Lakebreeze for their excellent wines.

This barrel top carving measures almost four feet across. Therefore I had to custom make it since barrels of that dimension just don’t exist.  I used western red cedar instead of oak to keep the weight down and then hand carved the train track scene to a depth of about two inches. After painstakingly painting all the little rocks and flowers  I finished the piece with a couple of coats of high quality stain.

This barrel top carving now lives in The Garret Station Restaurant in Los Gatos, California. A simple design composed of logo and script  is all that is needed for this barrel carving. This piece now adorns a beautiful location in the Pemberton Valley.

This is a fairly self explanatory visual: “Bite The Bullet”. This production company logo has gold leaf in the middle of the bullet as well as gold metal rings around the barrel.
